Ynys Llanddwyn Geology & Local Interest Walk
This is one of Anglesey’s best loved walks, in a stunning setting with the mountains of Snowdonia and the Lleyn as a backdrop. The Island was once home to Dwynwen the patron saint of Welsh lovers and a small community of fishermen. The walk will take us over ancient precambrian rocks that tell the story of plate tectonics. We will see how new rocks are formed and how they come to be destroyed. A ‘must-do’ walk if you want to learn about Anglesey’s intriguing geological past.
Distance: 4.5 miles
Time: approx. 3.5 hours
Terrain: The route follows a mixture of forest track, beach and public footpath. The route is uneven in places but generally on level ground. The route is unsuitable for pushchairs and for those with limited mobility.
Facilities: There are toilet facilities at the car park at the start and finish point.
